Making the Most of Sharing a Room with Cute Loft Beds for Girls and Boys

If your children have to share a room, there’s no need to build an addition.  Instead, find or create a good set of loft bed plans and build

your own solution.  It’ll be much easier on your budget – and you know what?  Your kids will love it!

Sharing a room is often a necessity, and there is nothing wrong with that.  You can still give each child their own space and privacy, while creating more open floor space for play.  The great part about today’s great loft beds for girls and boys is that you can customize them to fit your children’s room as well as their personality.

Here is just one design that is possible:  you have an L-shaped style, which updates the traditional bunk bed look.  The loft bed is accessible via a built-in ladder.  The lower bed has built-in storage towards the head of the bed, to make excellent use of the space that is created by the loft design.  In addition, there are drawers to one side of the lower bed, opposite the ladder, and a study space that can accommodate books, a computer, art supplies, or whatever your child needs.  All of this is presented in one compact package,

rather than being spread out over the entire room.  You have much room space for play – or just free space!

The options for designs are unlimited, especially when you create your own loft bed plans based on what your children need.  You’ll find that they don’t mind sharing a room when they can each have their own private spaces.

Safe and Sound for the Ones You Love

Your kids will love you, and you will love using plans and building a loft bed for far less than you would pay to buy one online or in a store. What is even more important though, is the steps you must take to ensure your loved one has a safe and sturdy place to sleep. Be sure to follow your loft bed plans

carefully, as well as the safety suggestions and guidelines that follow. Remember, your loved one’s safety depends upon you.

Safety of Younger Children

We think of children whenever we think of Loft or Bunk Beds, but remember very young children often do not consider all the risks that height presents. Most loft beds are six feet off the ground, and it is not recommended that children under six years of age ever be placed in the beds that high. Guardrails should be around these beds, a night light should be provided, and the children should be required to only climb up or down using the ladder provided.

Height Measurements Are Important

When building or buying a loft bed or a bunk bed for the children’s room, the height measurements are critical. If building bunk beds, be sure the top bed is high enough to allow for entry and exit to the lower bunk comfortably. The space should be great enough to avoid head injuries when the person naturally attempts to get out of the bed. This also hold true in a loft bed with regard to the clearance from the mattress to the ceiling. A traditional six foot loft bed would not be appropriate for a bedroom with an eight foot ceiling. The loft bed height should be modified accordingly to avoid injury. This will possibly limit the use of the space beneath the loft bed, but safety trumps all else.

Take Special Care in Building the Ladder

The ladder is the most important part of the project and the most difficult to build. Never scrimp on the quality of wood used to build a loft bed, espcially the ladder. Hardwood should be chosen and the rungs should be evenly spaced. Take care to cut each step exactly the same length so they will fit exactly against the side support pieces. Once constructed, it is equally as important for the ladder to fit securely onto the bed itself so that it doesn’t slip while someone is climbing up or down. Remember that children will be children, so this is one of those times to anticipate rough treatment. You should plan and build accordingly for strength and durability.

Keep these safety tips in mind when building this project with the directions of Loft bed plans. These types of beds are easy to build, and it’s a creative way

to find more space in the room. It is important to security measures carefully with each project woodworking to follow especially if beds to create that as high raised from ground and can be potentially dangerous if not built or used in an appropriate manner.

Affordable City Apartments Anything But Spacious

I remember visiting a young friend of our daughter’s while in New York City.  As we walked up to the building,  I thought, this looks nice.  Then we stepped

Small quarters in this efficiency apartment are enlarged by 42 square feet by using a loft bed futon couch below combo.

into his room.  Yes his room, not an apartment in my mind at all.  He really should have bought some decent loft bed plans and built one himself.  As it was his furniture was so close together you could hardly squeeze through and we had come for dinner.  Some of us sat on the bed while others sat on the couch with the dining room table in between us to eat.  Food was great, but the restaurant was a bit short on atmosphere.

Had he owned a futon couch, queen size loft bed combo, there would have been plenty of room for his table and chairs, his bed and his couch and coffee table.  In fact, it would have been perfect for his one room apartment.  His queen size bed required over 33 square feet of floor, as a loft bed it would have made his living space about 25% bigger.  What a space generator that would have been.

Designs of loft beds are almost endless. You can find wooden ones, metal ones, and some in acrylics.  The bed is up top and depending upon its size, you’ll gain that much room below for a couch, or a small office, or for storage.  Metal frames are popular and contemporary in design as a rule.  The wooden ones range from contemporary to classic traditional.

When you choose your futon hardware for down below, be sure to install the type that is sometimes called a “wall hugger” because it needs about 6″ of clearance when being pulled out and flattened into the bed it really is.  This may not seem important, but if you are in an apartment and the futon is slept on every night, it must be convenient to convert unless keeping your apartment looking tidy and neat is of no consequence.

Another point to consider when buying the futon itself is how frequently someone will be using it.  Futons can be quite uncomfortable for sleeping every night, especially if they are in the lower price ranges.  While budget is always a consideration with most of us, like any other good mattress’

comfort, you get what you pay for.  Do treat the purchase just as you would any other mattress.  Lie on the store model and decide whether or not you could sleep there every night.  If the answer is yes, then and only then, should you seriously consider making that purchase.

The final step is choosing the Futon’s cover.  Keep in mind that choosing your

cover is no less important than choosing the covering on your living room couch.  After all, by day the futon is your couch.  Many choices are out there, so we certainly will leave than choice up to you and your decorator.

By comparison to conventional furniture, loft beds are quite reasonable to purchase.  Most run between $1,200 and $3,200.  If you can afford to buy one, we would encourage you to do that, but if you want to save some money, it can be done if you build it yourself.  We know these woodworking projects turn out extremely well assuming you buy quality loft bed plans prior to starting the project.  Be sure to buy the type with step by step instructions and lists of not only the tools you will need but also the supplies.
